The briefest of mini-letters, on this bleak and rainy Monday:
Yesterday, between the baby’s (attempted) naps and the toddler birthday party in the park and the (plans to) shower and do laundry and transcribe interviews, I was lucky enough to speak with Camila Ochoa Mendoza, of the Abortion, with love podcast.
I’m so excited to fold our wise and wonderful conversation into the book, but for now I’ll just say: go subscribe and listen. The reason I got into abortion care work and the reason I got into writing are the same: I love human beings, human minds, human hearts, human bodies. I love to be messy and vulnerable together, I love to speak and be silent and share and ask questions and hold space.
When Camila told me that each conversation she has on the podcast opens a new window for her, I felt like I was suddenly standing in some sunlight. By reclaiming the way we talk about abortion, and encouraging listeners to go out into their own communities to continue the conversations, in the shapes and colors and rhythms of their own lives and languages, Abortion, with love is making joyful, earth-shaking, mind-expanding magic.
